Standards of Practice

IMCP serves to protect the public interest and promote the tools of metacognitive coaching by:

maintaining a register of all certified metacognitive coaches

developing Professional Practice Standards for Certified MCP-coaches

ensuring the ongoing competence of members through the Quality Assurance (QA) Program

holding registrants accountable for their conduct by investigating and addressing all complaints

taking action to prevent non-members from using restricted titles

providing funding for coaching in the event a client is sexually, physically or emotionally abused by a certified metacognitive coach

Standards of Practice

IMCP is governed by 6 elected master coaches and as many members as appointed by the Head of MCF.

Together 6 elected members form The Council. The council makes decisions related to registration requirements, standards of practice, continuing professional development and ethical standards of IMCP members.

Please note, as a Canadian for-profit corporation we have chosen to comply with the act of the Ministry of Health that regulates counseling and social work in Canada.

Quality Assurance (QA) program

All MCP-coaches and Master MCP-coaches are required to maintain their level of competence in coaching.

QA program is created to help MCP-coaches learn and progress in their skills and understanding of coaching.

QA consists of:

  • Supervision

Supervision is done through two independent processes.

In one process, MCP-coach if chosen for a supervision, is required to invite Master MCP-coach to one of the randomly selected client session with a permission from a client.

In another process MCP-coach is invited for an interview with Master MCP-coach with a purpose of assessment.

Participation in assessment is a mandatory requirement and in case if you are selected for assessment it cannot be avoided or deferred.

Failure to comply might result in cancellation of membership in IMCP. As a non-member person cannot use the title of certified MCP-coach.

  • Continuing Education

Our constant research and experimentation affects the body of knowledge of exponential coaching. All IMCP members are required to keep themselves up to date with our new standards of practices and tools.

Continuing education for MCP-coaches is provided through certified learning centres such as the Think Meta.

All members are notified once the programs are updated by more than 20% or when the new learning program that is obligatory for members is created.

  • Involvement in research

We expect all our members to help us build and improve the body of knowledge.

Every member is expected to write at least one research article per year and have it reviewed by 5-10 other members of IMCP.

If the article has enough merit and contributes to the body of knowledge of IMCP, it will be posted in IMCP controlled media with an attribution of authorship.

Filing a complaint about MCP-coach

If you have a concern or a complaint about the care you received from a certified MCP-coach, this is where you can find out more information about the process.

IMCP is the organization that members of the public can make complaints to; our job is to ensure that our coaches are providing the care that they should to all clients.

Non-members usage of restricted titles

Currently the only body that can certify a practitioner as a certified MCP-coach (Metacognitive Programming Coach) is IMCP.

Zero tolerance of any abuse of clients by MCP-coaches

Abuse includes physically, emotionally or sexually abusive behaviour between a coach and a client. It also includes behaviour such as sexually suggestive comments and jokes made by a coach in the presence of a client.

It doesn’t include touching, behaviour or remarks of a clinical nature that are appropriate to the coaching being provided.

Abuse is a misuse of power which uses the bonds of intimacy, trust and dependency to make the client vulnerable. On a verbal level abuse is characterized by threats, yelling, put downs, belittling, blaming and not constructive critique.

If you think you have become a victim of abuse from one of IMCP coaches, please immediately inform us by clicking on the button below and filling the form.
